FE2 computational homogenization for effective properties of heterogeneous materials

Abstract

A macro-micro computational homogenization procedure for estimation of effective tangent moduli of linear elastic micro-structures undergoing small strain deformation is described. The macro-level strain field is translated into micro-level displacement boundary conditions. Periodic boundary constraints are assumed and imposed using penalty method. The overall tangent modulus is then obtained as a function of stiffness, material properties and geometrical distribution of a micro-structure defined by a Representative Volume Element (RVE).
